The Division of Politics, Administration & Justice invites undergraduate and graduate Political Science students to consider these awards.

The awards vary in purposes, eligibility requirements, selection criteria and award items so please read the detailed descriptions to determine if a particular award is right for you.

Remember, these awards are competitive so, if required, submit materials that are complete and reflect your best work.

Undergraduate Students

IVAN RICHARDSON PRIZE 

Graduating undergraduate students in public administration or political science. The Richardson Prize is awarded to the public administration or political science undergraduate major who demonstrates exceptional public service, university service, or both, beyond normal degree requirements while pursuing an undergraduate degree. The student is nominated and selected by the Public Administration and Political Science faculty. Selected by a department-wide electronic vote.

OUTSTANDING UNDERGRADUATE POLITICAL SCIENCE MAJOR

Graduating undergraduate students in political science. This award is given to the student whose overall academic performance, including but not limited to courses in the major, distinguishes them as academically outstanding. The Division may elect not to issue this award. The student designated is nominated and selected by the Political Science faculty with the approval of the Executive Committee of the Division of PAJ. Selected by a department-wide electronic vote.  

 HARVEY GRODY AWARD

Goes to the best political science undergraduate in Public Law.  

 JULIAN FOSTER AWARD

Goes to the best political science undergraduate in Political Theory.  

 

Graduate Students

OUTSTANDING M.A. IN POLITICAL SCIENCE STUDENT

Graduating M.A. students in political science. This award is given to a student whose overall academic performance, including grades and performance on the written and oral exams, distinguishes them as academically outstanding. The Division may elect not to issue this award. The student is nominated and selected upon the advice of Political Science faculty serving on student graduate committees and the program adviser. Selected by a department-wide electronic vote.

BOOKSTORE SCHOLARSHIP FOR MA STUDENTS

M.A. students currently enrolled in the program who will be attending in the 2024/2025 academic year. The requirements are excellent academic performance and have completed 6-12 units in the program. Selected by the Graduate Coordinator and two other POSC faculty who taught MAPS courses during the last calendar year.
